The class will explore historical and contemporary debates about book challenges. You will develop your ability to think critically about book challenges and the concept of selection.

With a focus on comics in the second part of the semester, a medium that has historically been challenged at higher rates than text-exclusive books, the class will learn how to read images for teenage readers and investigate the connection between teens and comics cultures.
